HUDSON, N.H. -- Auguste "Gus" R. Ouellette, 86, a resident of Hudson who was a lifelong scoutmaster and was active in the community and was a World War II veteran, died Friday, Jan. 27, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Pauline (Laquerre) Ouellette, to whom he was married for 66 years.He was born in Dracut, Sept. 29, 1919, son of the late Dominique and Laura (Gaudette) Ouellette. He was raised in Dracut and Lowell, and graduated from Dracut High School in 1939.He married Pauline Laquerre on Sept. 29, 1947, and moved to Hudson at that time.Mr. Ouellette served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 345th Bombardment Group in the Pacific during World War II.In recent years, Mr. Ouellette enjoyed many reunions with his fellow corpsmen including a visit to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.Mr. Ouellette was a member of the VFW Post #5791. He was a volunteer at the VA helping with their bingo.He was a lifelong scout and former scoutmaster and was the first scoutmaster for Troop 252 of Hudson.Mr. Ouellette served on the Catholic Committee on Scouting as well as the District Committee.Mr. Ouellette received the Boy Scout District Award of Merit, the St. George Award, the Silver Beaver Award and the Scouter's Key.He was a Little League coach, a member of the Dracut High reunion committee and a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen. He also served on the Hudson's 300th Anniversary Committee.Mr. Ouellette was an active communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector, usher and he was past president of the men's club.Besides his wife, Mr. Ouellette is survived by two sons, Ronald Ouellette of Boston, and Paul Ouellette of Hudson; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Brad Trafton of Gonic, N.H.; six grandchildren, Avery Ouellette, Sarita and Scott Trafton, Jennifer Lowke and her husband, Bryan, Cynthia Tognarina and her husband, Jason, and Melissa Ouellette; two great-grandchildren, Garon Lowke and Charlie Tognarina; a sister, Annette Ouellette, residing in Ohio.He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Zelpha Ouellette of Milford and Jeannette Ouellette, residing in Illinois; a brother-in-law, Roger Laquerre and his wife, Rachel, residing in FloridaHe was Uncle Gus to several nieces and nephews; and scoutmaster to many boys in Hudson including faithful scout Duane Morin.He was also the brother of the late Peter, Fred, George and Raymond Ouellette, and Yvonne Peters, Anita Kerrallah, Claire Lemieux and Louise Wye.
