Arthur Wayne Ayer 1939-2006 SACKVILLE, N.B.-The death of Arthur Wayne Ayer, age 66 , of Sackville, N.B. occurred on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Sackville, N.B. Born on December 16, 1939 in Middle Sackville, N.B., he was the son of the late Arthur (Nip) and Annie (Snowdon) Ayer. Born in Middle Sackville, N.B., Wayne attended Sackville schools. He was a Correctional Officer at Dorchester Penitentiary for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1995, but not slowing down enough to call it a true retirement. Wayne had a great love for the outdoors, the Tantramar Marshes and Silver Lake in particular. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Many people knew him as "The Mushroom Man", as he knew just where to go to get the best mushrooms. A lifelong resident of Sackville, Wayne enjoyed getting to know people of every age and from every walk of life. He had many special friends and neighbors whose visits meant so much to him during his months of illness. Wayne took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. His four grandchildren brought him special joy. Wayne is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Linda; his five children, Patti of Sackville, N.B., Peter (Joanne) of Fredericton, N.B., Pam of Culcheth, England, Leanne of Fredericton, N.B. and Nathan of Dartmouth, N.S.; four grandchildren, Ally and Zak Pinnington of England and Katie and Ben Ayer of Fredericton, N.B. In addition, he is survived by his brother, John (Shelagh) Ayer of Sackville, N.B.; several nieces and nephews and two special cousins, Peggy Ricker and Doug Snowdon both of Sackville, N.B. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. E4L 3P1 (364-8188). Visitation will be held from Campbell's Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A private family interment will take place before the service. A Memorial Service will be held from the Salem Baptist Church on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Morris Mills officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wayne may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, the Tantramar Extramural Program or to the charity of one's choice. [Times & Transcript]
