He was born November 8, 1920 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Robbie Elvis and Etoile Thames Boone. A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he attended local schools, graduating from The Bolles School in 1938 when it was a military academy. He then attended the University of Florida until the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the beginning of World War II when he enlisted in the Army on January 22, 1942. He was accepted into the Army Air Corps and, after attending tactical training schools, went into combat in the 7th Air Force which took him to Midway and ended his tour at the battle of Tarawa. He served in the Pacific Theatre as a B-24 navigator based on the Island of Funafuti during the early years of the war where he survived the bombing and strafing of the island. After his tour in the Seventh Air Force, he attended flight school and was sent as a pilot to join the 305th Bomber Group of the Eighth Air Force flying B-17s in Europe. Overall he completed sixty-six missions and received numerous commendations including the Air Medal w/ 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and American, Pacific, and European campaign medals with a total of 9 bronze battle stars. After the war ended, he took a position as personal pilot to General Ira A. Eaker, the Deputy Commanding General of the Air Force. In the early 1960's, he became area representative of JAG which included North Florida and South Georgia. He retired from the active practice of law in 2001, but even after closing his office, he always remained available to his old clients and their families who sought advice. He loved the Law and was well known for his diligent research and untiring representation of his clients. He was a long time member of Riverside Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Deacons, was on the Board of Trustees of Riverside Presbyterian Day School and was on the founding board of Tradition House. During his later years, he also served on the Board of Directors for Friday Musicale, carrying on his life-long passion for music. In retirement, he also returned to his great love of tennis and was on the court almost every day. He introduced the game to his grandchildren and encouraged them to become competitive.
