ARNOLD JOSEPH CLIFFORD ARMSTRONG Armstrong - It is with great sorrow that the family of Arnold Armstrong announce his peaceful death, at the age of 85, at the Kirkland and District Hospital on February 2, 2005 following a long battle with emphysema and cancer. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed by his large family. He was born in Cobalt, April 9, 1919 and moved to the Kirkland Lake area at the age of 3. He was the last surviving member of the Armstrong family. Arnold was predeceased by his father Clifford, his mother Hazel (McGuire), his brothers Jack, Bert, Clayton, and his sisters Jean Lane, Hazel Oreck, Muriel Cashen and his beloved son, Arnold Jr. (Lundy), in 1980. He leaves behind his loving wife, Monica, after 64 years of marriage, his children Wayne (Elaine) of Hamilton, Gary of Lacey, Washington, USA, Sherry Armstrong-Haddow of Oakville, Susan (Henry) Darling of Kenogami Lake, Mark (Pierette) of Kirkland Lake, Michael (Debbie) of North Bay and Shawn (Pauline) of Kirkland Lake, also 18 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Arnold was employed at the Kirkland Lake Fire Department for 40 years. He started as a volunteer fireman for one year, then joined the permanent staff and retired in 1980 as Deputy Chief. He also repaired and recharged fire extinguishers for many years. He was a veteran of World War 2 and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 44 years. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1943 and served for three years in the fire halls at Camp Borden, the East Coast and at the Montieth Prison Camp until his discharge in 1946 when he returned to the K.L. Fire Services. Arnold was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a devoted member of the Holy Name Parish since its inception. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Monette & French Funeral Home on Friday, February 4, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Holy Name Parish at 10:30 a.m. with Father Wayne Mills officiating. Arnold will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery in the spring of 2005. In lieu of flowers donations in Arnold’s name may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children (555 University Ave., Toronto, Ontario M5G 1X8) or the Lung Association (P.O.
