O.M.I 1908 - 2001 On Sunday May 6th, 2001 Father Anthony ("Tony") Hall died at Laurier Manor, Ottawa. He was 93. Fr. Tony was one of eleven children of the late James Hall and Alice Shea. He was born in St. Columban's, Quebec on April 19th, 1908. Shortly after, his family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he was educated. He entered the Oblate novitiate in 1926. After three years at Lebret, he was sent to Rome to study. Father Hall was ordained June 26th, 1932. He received a doctorate in philosophy and returned to Canada. In 1934, he became Superior of Holy Rosary Scholasticate in Orleans, Ontario. In 1942, Father Hall became Director of the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate. He founded the Oblate Missions magazine. For the next ten years, as Provincial Bursar, Father Hall was involved in the province's expansion. In 1961, he was coopted to preside over the development of Pius XII University in Roma, Basutoland (Lesotho). In 1969, he was named Assistant OMI General Bursar in Rome and in 1979, Director General of the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate. In 1981, he returned to Canada and was named Executive Secretary of the Medical Friends of Peru. The Holy See recognized Father Hall's long service to the church awarding him the decoration "Pro Ecclesiae et Pontifice". Very much a part of St. Peter's Province history over the past 75 years, Father Hall was predeceased by all of his brothers: John, Emmett, Mike, Jim and sisters Annie, Alice, Eva, Eileen, Helen and Virginia leaving to mourn many relatives and close friends, especially Dorothy Dunn. Father Hall will be transferred from the Kelly Funeral Home to Canadian Martyr's Church, Ottawa, where friends may pay respects from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Office of the Dead Thursday at 7 p.m. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Funeral, Friday, May 11th at 11:30 a.m. Interment St. Theresa's Cemetery, Arnprior, Friday at 3 p.m. Donations to MAMI, the Medical Friends of Peru, or your favourite Charity would be appreciated.
