On Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, Jesus came and took Mrs. Annie Ruth Gillis to be with Him. She was 86. Mrs. Gillis was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Walton County, to the late J.A. and Mahalia Padgett Arrant. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Ponce de Leon, for a number of years and will be remembered for her strong faith she had in Jesus. In addition to her parents, her husband of 67 years, Ray Gillis, an infant son, John Angus Gillis, and a brother, Angus Gay Arrant, all preceded her in death. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Murdock Leroy and Audrey Kay Andrews Gillis, Westville; three grandchildren, Sherry Ann Barney and husband Timothy, Westville, Murdock Ray Gillis and wife Emily, Blountstown, Jolie Lynn Gillis, Westville; five great-grandchildren, Melody Faith Barney, Jordan Wyatt Barney, Anna Catherine Gillis, Cheyenne Aislinn Skipper and Samual Ryan Gillis; two sisters, Jessie Mae Simmons, Pensacola, Wynell Paul, DeFuniak Springs; sister-in-law, Joan Arrant, Pensacola, and other extended family and a host of friends.Funeral services were held, Dec. 29, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Kenneth Harrison officiating. Burial followed in the Gillis Family cemetery at the home place, 1556 Spears Road, Westville, with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
