Annie Hagood Smith, 93, died July 16, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Winnsboro, she was the wife of the late William Joseph Smith and daughter of the late George Bunion and Maggie Jane Yarborough Hagood. She was reared in Winnsboro, one of 11 children, and was one of the largest families in Winnsboro at that time. She attended Winthrop College and was a graduate of Appalachian State University. She was former Principal and teacher at Winnsboro Elementary School for three years, former Principal and teacher at Glenn Springs Elementary School for four years, former Principal and teacher of Buffalo Junior High School for 15 years, former teacher of Union Junior High School, and retired from Woodruff Junior High School. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church of Glenn Springs, where she was a former member of the Altar Guild. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Lou Vaughn of Greenville, Ethel Edwards of Travelers Rest, and Nellie Cooper of Houston, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, July 20, 2001, at Floyd's North Church St. Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Glenn Springs, conducted by the Rev. Robert H. Long and the Rev. Robert B. Dunbar. Burial will be at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 369, Pauline, SC 29374.
