WALKER Annette Marie Hackett Walker, 52, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003, surrounded by her loving family. Originally from Dorchester, Mass., Annette married Billy Walker on January 4, 1975 and followed her new husband to Hagerstown, Maryland where they lived for almost 3 years while he served in the U. S. Navy at Camp David. They moved to his hometown of Jacksonville in 1977, started a family and built a home in Oceanway. Annette was born on March 1, 1951 and raised in the Franklin Hill Projects of Dorchester. After graduating from Hyde Park High, she went on to earn her RN at the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. Annette began her nursing career at the Boston City Hospital. In Maryland, Annette worked as an RN in the Washington County Hospital ICU and the Waynesboro Hospital ER. Moving to Jacksonville, Annette worked at St. Lukes Hospitals ICU. In 1986 Annette began working for the Duval County School District as a school nurse and worked in numerous schools around the county for over 15 years. Annette was a giving person that will be missed by her family and the many friends that have been touched by her life. Annette struggled with colon cancer for 2 years and throughout it all put others needs above her own. She will always be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness and strength. Annette made many friends along the way and her family would like to thank those who were closest to her heart, including nurses, doctors and other staff members from Shands Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center & Cancer Institute in Jacksonville, along with Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston for the wonderful care Annette received. Annettes immediate family members include her husband, Billy; son, Andrew (Jennifer) Walker; 2 daughters, Kate (Scott) Wandzilak & Tasha; grandsons, Joshua, Jacob & Joseph; mother, Barbara Hackett; brothers, Daniel (deceased) & Mike Hackett; sisters, Patricia Dennehy, Jeanne Wilson & Wendy Hosmer; and many nieces & nephews. Annette was a member of Duval Station Baptist Church (Lyle Road in Oceanway) where funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Monday, September 1, with Rev. Steve McCoy, officiating. Interment will be at 3:00PM Monday also, in the family cemetery at New Home Primitive Baptist Church in Offerman, GA. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM, Sunday, Aug. 31, at COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave. In accordance with Annettes wishes, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Hospice of N.
