Anne Morgan McKenzie, 100 years old and formerly of Upper Deerfield Township, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 24, of congestive heart failure while a patient at South Jersey Healthcare Ð Regional Medical Center in Vineland. She was the wife of the late Rev. A.C. McKenzie, longtime Nazarene pastor and pastor of the Bridgeton Church of the Nazarene. Rev. McKenzie served the church for over 50 years and he died in 1998. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Nanticoke, PA and was the last surviving of eight children of the late Harry M. and Annie Coppin Morgan. She graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1929 and matriculated at Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating with a teaching degree in 1931. While in college, she was an exceptional athlete and played basketball and was a pitcher of the college softball team. She was married in 1932 and taught in Norristown, PA and also in Oxford, PA in a "one room schoolhouse." Mrs. McKenzie later worked as a receptionist and secretary for the Nazarene Church Headquarters in Kansas City and later in Trenton. She was devoted to her beloved husband, A.C., and served as a partner in Christian ministry for over 50 years. Being her husband's partner was her greatest accomplishment in life. She loved fishing and was a lifelong sports enthusiast. She also enjoyed making crafts as a hobby. Survivors include two children, Ethel Anne Smith and her husband, John W. Smith of Vineland and A. Morgan McKenzie and his life partner, Jimmy Stanley of Erie, CO; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. McKenzie's funeral service at the Bridgeton First Church of the Nazarene, 350 West Park Drive in Hopewell Township on Saturday afternoon April 28 at 2 p.m. The church's pastor, Rev. Milton Akey will officiate. The interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the church Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested in Mrs. McKenzie's memory to SJ Healthcare Ð HospiceCare, PO Box 160, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
