COLONIE, N.Y. Anna Szabiet Harris died peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. Anna was born April 27, 1913, on an Easter Sunday in Schenectady, to the late Joseph and Anastasia Bakun Szabiet. She was the beloved widow of Harry P. Harris and adoring mother to Nita Harris Siciliano of West Chester, Pa. and Gregory J. Harris of Latham, N.Y. She was the proud grandmother to Peter G. Siciliano of New York City, Mark R. Siciliano of West Chester and Ashley F. Harris of Latham. Her brothers, Joseph and Adam Szabiet, and adoptive sister, Anastasia Pinkosky Lazzo, preceded Mrs. Harris in death. In addition to her immediate family, a sister, Evelyn Szabiet Bol of Scotia, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews survive her. Aside from her children, Anna was always most proud that she had been valedictorian of her class at the Maplewood Grammar School, starting a family tradition. She remained fluent in both the Russian and English languages. Anna had been an employee of the Albany Felt Company until prior to World War II; she was active in the PTA and other community organizations, as well as a lifelong communicant of St. Basil's Orthodox Church in Maplewood, N.Y. Mrs. Harris was employed with New York State's Social Services, Indian Affairs Section, for almost 20 years. Funeral services are planned for Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Basil's Orthodox Church in Maplewood where the Reverend Peter Olsen and the Reverend David Shewczyk, Mrs. Harris' grandnephew, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Basil's Cemetery, Elm Street, Maplewood. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, N.Y. on Friday, September 29, 2005 from 3:00-4:30 and 6-8:30 p.m., during which time the Parastas service will be held at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made for Macular Degeneration Research or a charity of one's choice in memory of Anna Szabiet Harris.
