Ann White Ann Smith White passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 9, 2011, at the age of 94. Ann's long, productive, and well lived-life was above all marked by kindness and caring for others. Ann was born in Boston, daughter of Hazel Moody Smith and Dr. Peter Smith. Ann graduated from Washington, D.C's Trinity College in 1939, and in 1943 married William White, a Navy submariner. Shortly after their marriage, Bill went off to the Pacific, he was lost with all of his mates on the storied submarine USS Wahoo near the Sea of Japan. Ann rose above this tragic loss with fortitude. After serving in a number of jobs in the communications arena in the Boston area, Ann went on to become owner of the Schooner Alice Wentworth, with which she and her crew escorted fortunate passengers on cruises in Cape Cod and Marine waters. In 1969 Ann earned a Masters Degree from Tufts University, and went on to a career in teaching high school English in Kingston, MA. Ann was devoted to her family and friends, and she turned her love of travel into numerous visits to family members around the country. She also volunteered for an archaeology dig in England. Besides family and friends, among her many passions were photography, cooking, and her home in Kingston. Late in life, she became a lay member of the Christ in the Desert Benedictine Monastery in a remote part of far-off New Mexico, where she visited and volunteered several times. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sister Mary Smith Giguere, and her brothers Andrew Smith and Matthew Smith. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
