Ann S. Ryan, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur and native of Peabody, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at home. She was born on September 19, 1945, the daughter of the late Donald E. and Gertrude (Whalen) Ryan and entered Religious Life on September 8, 1970. Sister received her BA from Regis College, MA from Weston School of Theology and her PhD. from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. Her ministries included teaching High School in 3 Eastern Massachusetts communities and serving as the Campus Minister at Yale University, New Haven, CT, Spiritual Director at St. Stephen Priory, Dover, MA and most recently as Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, MA. Besides her Sisters in Community, Sr. Ann is survived by a brother, Donald Ryan, Jr. of Quincy, MA, two sisters, Donna Feeley and her husband Bob of Charleston, SC and Karen Bogue and her husband Steve of West Roxbury and her nieces and nephews. The calling hours for Sr. Ann will be held on Wednesday, August 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the chapel on the Elms College Campus, 291 Springfield St., Chicopee with the Funeral Mass set to begin at 4:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sr. Ann may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 468 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT, 06095.
