->AUGUSTA -- Anaise Mercier, 84, of Eight Rod Road died March 13, 2006, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birch, after a long illness.She was born in Augusta on Nov. 30, 1921, to Willie Bellavance and Alice (Boucher) Bellavance.Mrs. Mercier was educated in Augusta schools. Although she was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, Mrs. Mercier had been employed by Hazzard Shoe Co. and Edwards Manufacturing Co. for several years.She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne Society.Mrs. Mercier was predeceased by her husband, Alfred J. Mercier, on Jan. 5, 1995; a son, Roland Mercier, on March 12, 1997; two brothers, Antonio Bellavance and Leo Bellavance; and her parents.Surviving are three daughters, Juliette Piper and her husband, Ormand, of Winthrop, Yvonne Lajoie of Augusta and Bernadette Whitten and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; one sister, Florence Beaulieu of Sidney; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where the Ladies of St. Anne Society is asked to meet at 3 p.m. for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
