Mrs. Amanda Jeanette Carson Smith, 84, of Sheffield, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Helen Keller Hospital after an extended illness.She was a native of Colbert County, a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, Cherokee, for more than 60 years until bad health prevented her from attending. She taught the young girls' Sunday school class for more than 25 years.Services for Mrs. Smith will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Morrison Funeral Home chapel, Tuscumbia. Visitation will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Brother Morris Kennedy and Dr. Tom Phillips. Burial will be in Barton Cemetery. Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, directing.Preceding in her in death were her husband, Raybron L. Smith; daughter, Sheila Smith Futrell; parents, Max and Carrie Rutland Carson; sisters, Laurine Carson, Linda Carson Nelson; and brother, Earl Dean Carson.Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Powers (Kenneth), Muscle Shoals; sons, Leon Smith (Pam), Killen, Dale Smith (Karen), Cherokee; son-in-law, John Futrell, Sheffield; brother, Bob Carson (Raynell); sister, Mary Nell Berryman (Elbert); brother-in-law, Jerry Nelson; sister-in-law, Joyce Hargett Carson; grandsons, Micah Smith (Ashley), Kyle Smith (Meghan), Kade Smith, Jonathan Futrell, Jody Lanier; granddaughters, Sharman Brooks (Rob), Stephanie Lanier; great-granddaughters, Katie and Kess Lanier, Carson Brooks, Abagail and Mollie Smith; and her special friends, Lester Thorne, Roy Dean and Jane Woodard, Dot Layne, Ann Cantrell and Mary Stanford.Pallbearers are Dennis Carson, Micah Smith, Kyle Smith, Kade Smith, Jonathan Futrell, Rob Brooks, Jody Lanier and Mike Horton.Honorary pallbearers are Lester Thorne, Joe Rutland, Brice Wallace, Russ Logan, John Pugh, Mike Hester, Gillmore White and John Futrell.The family extends a very special "thank you" to Dr. Andre Taylor, Dr. Lynn Ridgeway, Dr. Jerry Williams and to all the nurses in the ICU and third floor at Helen Keller Hospital.
