AIKEN, S.C. - Mrs. Alpha Annette Smith, age 95 of Aiken, died Monday, June 9, 2003. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2003, at Friendship Baptist Church in Aiken, with the Rev. George Weaver and Rev. Keith Slaughter officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Lawn Memorial Gardens in Aiken. Mrs. Smith was a native of Aiken, and the daughter of the late Alfred and Rosa Thompson. She was a graduate of Martha Schofield High School and Normal College at South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. She taught piano and was the organist for Friendship Baptist Church in Aiken, for 63 years. She is survived by her sons, Retired Army LTC Jason H. Smith, Jr., Paris, France, Retired Army LTC Clarence Smith, Harrisburg, Pa. and Ronald Smith, Darby, Mont.; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; plus several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning noon Sunday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state at the church Monday from noon until the hour of service.
