Alison Virginia Carter, 89, of Roselle, N.J., was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. Services are Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. from Second Baptist Church, 200 Locust St., Roselle. Visitations are Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Alison earned her M.A. degree in health education and 6th-year level certification in administration and supervision from Montclair State University. She was an adjunct instructor at Kean University and Rutgers University-Livingston College. Alison was employed by the Linden public school system as a school nurse and health educator for 27 years, retiring in 1983. Alison Carter was a woman of many achievements: she served on the Union County Family Court Child Placement Review Board for 12 years, the board of directors for Family and Children Services of Union County and the United Way of Eastern Union County, and the advisory board for Trinitas Regional Medical Center. She was appointed by then Gov. Christie Todd Whitman to serve on the New Jersey Commission on Aging and as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. An active member of the AARP, she established chapters in Roselle, Newark, N.J., and Elizabeth, N.J. Alison was also a member of the Roselle branch of the NCNW and the NAACP and the Second Baptist Church, Roselle. Surviving are her aunt, Zola Dunn; first cousins, Evelyn Stockling, Anita Ford, Harriet Loving, Linda Hart, Minna Dunn, Denise Dunn Randolph, and Marcia Dunn; niece, Millicent Barnes-Murrell, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Center of Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076.
