HENDERSON,ALICE FAYE, 70Chiefland - Alice Faye Henderson, 70, put off this earthly house on August 2, 2011 and now lives in a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens (11 Corinthians 5:1). Cancer ravaged her body but it could not conquer her spirit. Born January 17, 1941, Faye lived most of her life in Chiefland, Levy County, Florida. She attended Chiefland High School and graduated in 1959. She enjoyed school and especially sports. She was a hard driving basketball player, a cheerleader and played in the high school band. Her senior year she was voted "Most Athletic" and crowned "Miss C.H.S." On August 15, 1959, Faye married H.C. Henderson, Jr., who was her next door neighbor and high school sweetheart. The Lord blessed them with two loving sons, Skipper and Adam, and a wonderful marriage which stood the test of time for over 51 years. They owned and operated Levy Abstract & Title Company, in Bronson and Chiefland, for over half a century, helping people with their real estates closings and title insurance needs. Faye was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She knew how to make her house a home for her family. Among other things, she was a great cook and well known in her community for her delicious cakes and pies, which were very popular and quickly purchased at charity auctions, but were graciously given and shared with her friends and neighbors for many years. Faye had a zest for life and endless energy. She had a natural talent for decorating and landscaping, as evident in her home and yard. She enjoyed antiquing and was known to frequent antique malls, flea markets or other places where she might find a hidden treasure belonging to times long ago. Faye also enjoyed fishing with her husband and, more often than not, would out fish him. She was never ready to come home, believing that just one more cast would net her the biggest catch of the day. She had a spirit of adventure, and whether traveling with H.C. or her girlfriends, Faye was great fun. While Faye was full of energy and enjoyed both work and play, her greatest pleasure was in her family. She believed that it was important for them to spend time together and make sure that all birthdays and holidays were appropriately celebrated. After her family was grown she brought them back together with her Sunday after church dinners and her annual Christmas Eve oyster roast and feast. Faye was baptized into Christ at the young age of 14 and has been a member of the Chiefland Church of Christ for 56 years. She was a devout Christian, a student of the bible, Sunday School Teacher and a worker in God's Kingdom. Like Dorcas, in the Bible (Acts 9:36), she was full of good works and charitable deeds. Her most important goal in life was to go to heaven and through her teaching and by her example, take her family and as many others with her as she could. She was a compassionate, selfless, caring and nurturing woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May her light continue to shine in the lives of those whose hearts she has touched. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Lovie Dyals, one brother, Oliver Dyals, and two sisters, Iris Geiger and Darlene Rowe. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, H.C. Henderson, Jr., two sons, Skipper (Jan) Henderson and Adam (Amy) Henderson, two brothers, John (Linda) Dyals and Dan (Judy) Dyals, three grandchildren, Lindsey Ann Henderson, Hill Henderson and Hayden St. John Henderson, two great-grandchildren, Marley Ann Revels and Memphis Dean Henderson, her mother-in-law, Essielene Henderson and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chiefland High School Auditorium with Brother Dwayne Derrick and Brother Tommy Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at The Chiefland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to the Levy County Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 1386, Bronson, FL 32621. These donations will be used to fund a scholarship in Faye's name for a deserving high school graduate entering college. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland.
