Alice-Eloise Smith, née en 1919, conjointe de Lloyd Harkness, fille de Robie et Lila, mère de Janice, est décédée le 31 août 2008 à l'âge de 89 ans.
Alice Eloise Harkness July 23, 1919 - August 31, 2008 age 89 of Lower Sackville and formerly of Amherst passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Melville Lodge Care Centre in Halifax, with her loving family by her side. Born in East Mapleton, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Robie and Lila (Smith) Smith. In her younger years, Alice worked at Canada Car in Amherst and the Highland View Hospital, in the Domestic Department. In her later years she worked at Kay's Fabrics on Spring Street. Alice was an avid homemaker and adored her family both immediate and extended. She was a faithful and active member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, where she was a member of the United Church Women and honored with a life membership. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. Alice is survived by her daughter, Janice (John) Balcom of Lower Sackville; two grandsons, John of Toronto, ON and Jason of Lower Sackville; sisters, Georgina "Ginger" (Deane) Maston and Audrey O'Leary both of Amherst; brothers, Worden Smith of Yuma, Arizona, Hedley (Shirley) Smith of Middle Sackville and Shirley (Bernice) Smith of Amherst; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; brothers, Estey, Benjamin, Harry, Bertram and infant sister. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Interment will follow in the Southampton Cemetery.
