Alice Elizabeth Whitson Lee, 88, Ellettsville, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Richland Bean Blossom Health Care Center, Ellettsville. Born July 12, 1918, in Seymour, she was the third of four children born to Hamilton Whitson and Whilomena Farr Whitson. When Alice was 6, her mother died, and at age 16 her father died. Grandparents, aunts and uncles became her family. She met Richard C. Lee in Jackson County, and they were married April 7, 1945, and moved to Bloomington. She was always a loving and devoted wife and loving and nurturing mother. She was a wonderful cook, with her home always being warm and inviting. She was hostess for many slumber parties and cooked many Sunday dinners not knowing how many children her own children would bring home from church for the afternoon. Survivors include her son, Danny (Betty) Lee, Ellettsville; daughters, Marsha (David) Clark, Ellettsville, Jan (Gary) Adkins, Spencer, and Bonnie (Marc) Patton, Bloomington; a half sister, Lucille Aynes, Brownstown; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Deckard, Indianapolis; and the joy of her life has been her family and she has especially enjoyed her grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Garry Lee, Heath Adkins, Jason Lee, Adrienne Clark-Lorenzo, Aaron Patton, Jill Adkins and Amanda Patton; great-grandchildren, Isabella Lee and Elijah Patton; nephews, Mike Linscott, Neil Whitson, Steve Whitson, Larry Deckard and Roger Deckard; and nieces, Mary Ann Stinson, Jan Linscott, Carol Otter and Shirley Harlin. She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Charlotte Schrader; paternal grandparents, George and Alice Whitson; maternal grandparents, William and Anna Farr; her husband, Richard C. Lee; a brother, Lawrence Whitson; sisters, Elnora Whitson and Charlott Whitson; a half brother, Donald Whitson; and a stepsister, Josephine Deuchman. The Rev. David Wigington will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chandler Funeral Home, Ellettsville. Burial will take place at Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
