LEE, Alfred – Peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, on Sunday, September 19th, 2010. Alfred George Lee (WWII Veteran, Royal Canadian Legion member, Branch 297 and Captain of the S,D & G Highlanders) of St. Felix Street, Cornwall; age 85 years. Former manager at the Hotel Dieu Hospital for 26 years; Beloved husband of the late Doreen (Harker) Lee. Loving father of James Lee (Vick) of Toronto, Antony Lee and Catherine Paul (Maurice) both of Cornwall, Joanne Zahaby (Mohamed) of Aylmer, Quebec and Linda from a previous marriage. Cherished grandfather of 6 grandchildren, Sean (Jenna), Christopher (Amanda) & Jennifer Paul, Sashya & Yasmeen Zahaby and Brandun Lee. Cherished great-grandfather of 3, Emilie, Kelsey and Shayne. Beloved son of the late Charles Henry Lee and the late Bertha Lee (Divall). Dear brother of Sheila Gowers (Richard) of Bexhill-on-Sea, England and brother in law of Joan Harker of Cornwall. Predeceased by two brothers Charles O. Lee (Ellen) of Adelaide, Australia, Samuel Lee (Doris) of London, England and one sister Elsie Anderson (George) of London, England. Alfred joined The Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and served as a British Commando in WWII. He saw active service in France, Burma, India, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Malaya, (Malaysia) and Hong Kong. After the war he was stationed in Germany and Jamaica until 1952. Upon arrival in Cornwall, in 1964, he joined the S, D & G Highlanders and rose to the rank of Captain. Throughout the years Alfred was very active in the Cornwall area, serving as president of the Optimist Club, member of the Cornwall Service Club Council, the Emergency Measures Organization, The Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Canadian Army Cadets and more. He was well known for his singing and entertaining and his good sense of humour. Resting at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482) from 6:30 on Friday September 24, 2010. Funeral Service will be held in the Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. followed by cremation. The family will be in attendance from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m on Friday. As expressions of sympathy Memorial Donations to the Ontario Health Coalition would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolences may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.com All members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 297 are requested to assemble at the Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. for Legion Service for our late comrade Alfred Lee.
