Albert Van Essen, 80 Albert Van Essen, of Prescott, died on Sept. 20, 2005 at Brockville General Hospital at the age of 80. He was born on March 11, 1925 at Apeldoorn, Holland to his parents Steven Vanessen and Jansje Dewilde. He married Joanna Testerink on April 28, 1948 in Apeldoorn. In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Van Essen moved to Prescott where they raised their family. He spent eight years farming; he was then a long-term truck driver with Brockville Chemicals. His hobbies and interests were mostly work-related: painting, roofing and later wheeling and dealing in scrap metals. He always enjoyed a game of cards with friends and family as well as a WWF match, and he also enjoyed listening to gospel music. He is survived by his wife Joanna, children Jeni Dyment (Paul) of Brighton, Heidi Murray (John) of Orangeville, John (Brenda) of Bowmanville and Wendo Van Essen of Phoenix, Arizona, his grandchildren Peter (Kirsten), Joanna (Sheldon), Elizabeth, Sarah, Claire (Andrew), Alison, Derek, John David, Amanda (Bryan) and Michael (Kim), six great grandchildren, his sister Johanna Vanbreda of Holland and nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law and sisters in law in Holland. He was also a dear friend of Aubrey and Patty Dillabough of Prescott. He was predeceased by his parents and infant son Stephen. Family and friends visited at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott on Sept. 22, 2005. The funeral service was held in the chapel on Sept. 23. Rev. Laurie Milito officiated. Pallbearers were Aubrey Dillabough, Stuart Couperus, Aurey Nolan and grandsons Michael Van Essen, Derek Murray and John David Murray. Honourary pallbearers were grandchildren Peter, Joanna, Elizabeth, Sarah, Claire, Alison and Amanda. A tribute was made by Mr. Van Essen's son, John, and his granddaughter Amanda sang one of his favourite hymns, How Great Thou Art. Burial took place at Blue Church Cemetery on Sept. 23. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
