SANFORD — Adrien A. Morin, 92, of Sanford, died June 23 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.He was born in St. Evariste, Quebec, Canada, on October 18, 1916, a son of Joseph E. and Exilia (Halle) Morin.As a young child, he came to Sanford, where he attended local schools. He completed a course of study with Coyne Electric in Chicago, Ill.He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific with a medical detachment.For many years, he was employed with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. While there, he received a Letter of Exemplary Performance, saving a man from electrocution in an accident there in 1959. He worked briefly for Stultz Electric in Westbrook. He also owned and operated an electric motor business, through which he met many people, enjoying their company.Adrien was a musician. He played with the former Sanford Community Band and for many years played at the Pirate's Cove Restaurant in Rye Beach, N.H. He received a Certificate of Appreciation as a guitarist in the 23rd annual festival of American Folklife on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in 1989, as part of the Smithsonian Institution's folklife programs.Adrien supported many community activities, including the Special Olympics, the Sanford Regional Vocational Center and the Sanford VFW Post, where he served as an officer. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.He was a communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford.In 2006, he received a Congressional Order of Merit from the National Republican Congressional Committee.He was a devoted family man who was married for 61 years. In recent years, as his wife's health declined and it was necessary for her to move into an assisted living facility and then into a nursing home, he visited her daily, offering her support and comfort. They still took many rides to the beach together. He always enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and walking. He took daily walks around Number One Pond in Sanford.He was predeceased by six siblings: Sadie Normand, Marie LaRoche-Davies, Jeanne Merrifield, Irene Merrifield, Leo Morin and Paul Morin.Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Cecile G. (Fournier) Morin, of Sanford; a son, Armand Morin and his wife, Denise, of Manchester, N.H.; 2 daughters, Emily Kennedy and her husband, Tom, of Potter Place, N.H., and Ann Marie Duchette, of Lebanon; a brother, Roland Morin, of Sanford; a sister, Grace Fusco, of Farmington, Conn.; and 5 grandchildren, Tim Kennedy, Sean Kennedy, Ryan Morin, Erin Morin and Dustin Duchette.A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 29 at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church, in Sanford. Burial followed in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.Arrangements were under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.>
