PITTSTON -- Ada Frances Davis, 84, formerly of Hunts Meadow Road and a resident of Gilbert's Manor in Gardiner, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, surrounded by her family.She was born in Randolph on May 5, 1921, a daughter of Frank K and Ada Florence (Dow) Sullivan.She had worked on her family farm in Pittston for many years. She also was employed in the kitchen at the Togus veterans' hospital and as a nurse's aide at Willow Crest Nursing Home in Pittston. She was educated in Randolph and Gardiner schools. An avid Gardiner High and Winslow High sports fan, she was known as "Nana" to many former and current Gardiner High cheerleaders for 29 years. She was "Pick My Pocket Lady" at Pittston Elementary School.A lifetime member of the Pittston Fair Association and a member of the Pittston Grange, Ada enjoyed word puzzles, crocheting, bingo and karaoke. She could often be seen sitting at her picture window, putting her puzzles together.She never forgot any of her family at Christmas time, buying gifts for all. Everyone will sadly miss her.She was predeceased by her son, Ron Davis; her sister, Harriet Racki; her brother, Jay F. Sullivan; two half brothers, Gerald Allen and Albert Allen; and a half sister, Doris Morang.She is survived by six children, Arthur Davis and wife Shirley of East Pittston, Linda J. Lawrence of East Pittston, David F. Davis and wife Jean of Randolph, Dixie L. Dolley and husband Gerald of Chelsea, Diane Werber and husband Ralph of East Pittston, and Kathy Haskell and husband Gary of South China; daughter-in-law Marvina Davis of Richmond; sister Eva Sullivan of Salem, N.H.; her brother, Daniel C. Sullivan Sr. and wife Frances of Buxton; sister-in-law Sophie Sullivan of Columbus, Ga.; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m.Spring burial will be in the family lot in Whitefield Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the "Little Nana Davis" Scholarship Fund, c/o Karen Perry, Gardiner Area High School, West Hill Road, Gardiner, ME 04345.
