SMITH, LTC Arnold (USAF Retired)Age 89 of Warner Robins, GA. Passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010. Upon graduation from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN, he enlisted in the Air Force. A World War II pilot, he flew in the Berlin Air Lift. He later served in the War Room at the Pentagon and had his final tour of duty at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam. Among his many service awards were the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star. He settled in Warner Robins, GA in 1970 upon his retirement. An avid golfer, "Arnie" was a charter member of the Sandy Run Golf Course, predecessor to the International City Golf Club where he proudly held the membership number 001. He was preceded in death by parents, Audrain E. and Hettie B. Smith; wife, Sarah Jane Oakley; wife, Irene Hoefling Smith. He is survived by his sister, Juanita S. Carr of Hendersonville, TN; niece, Noroma C. Benz (Jack) of Goodlettsville, TN. A private family burial will be held in Livingston, TN.
