Thomas G. Tompkins, 80, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Care One at Morris in Parsippany. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, 90 Whippany Rd., Whippany. Cremation is private. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. only at Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Rd., Parsippany, (973) 887-3235, or visit partroyfuneralhome.com. Thomas was born and raised in Hammond, Ind. He lived in Maplewood for 17 years, Flemington for five years, and North Plainfield for 17 years, before moving to Whippany in 2007. Thomas served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He was in training to become a jet fighter pilot. Thomas was a financial planner for 40 years before retiring in August of 2009. He worked for Sage Point in Scotch Plains, New England Corporation in Somerville, and Home Life in Green Village. He received his B.A. in finance from Indiana University. Survivors include his wife, Mary G. (nee Granito); his children, Paul and his wife, Rebecca, of Westfield, Charles "Bill" and his wife, Maryann, of Cranford, and Martha Slaughter and her husband, Joseph, of Gilbert, Ariz.; his brother, Fred of Virginia; his sister, Joyce Powell of Arizona, and his cherished two grandsons, and six granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 140 Littleton Rd., Suite 200, Parsippany, N.J. 07054, in his memory.
