WILLIAMS Stamie Dudley Williams died April 13, 2010, with his family at his side. He was born in "the old" St. Luke's Hospital March 31, 1920 to Dudley Wake Williams and Effie Lee Oglesby Williams. Stamie spent his entire life in Jacksonville with the exception of the time spent in military service during World War II. He attended Jacksonville schools, having graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He graduated from The University of Florida in 1942. After completing UF ROTC, he was called into active military service, being discharged with the rank of major. He served in the field artillery in the European Theater of Operations. Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to Jacksonville and worked for the City Dept of Health. He soon founded Pine Grove Dairy which he operated until he sold it in 2005. During the many years Stamie worked in the dairy industry he worked for and encouraged the establishment of the free market system in agriculture. During that time Stamie served on the board of directors or as an active officer of Florida Farm Bureau, the Farmers Federal Credit Union and the NE Fla. Dairy Coop. He was also a member of The Westside Kiwanis Club and the Gideons Westside Camp. For many years Stamie was an active member, Sunday School teacher, choir member, deacon and served on various committees of Lakeshore Baptist Church and the original Avondale Baptist Church. At the time of his death he was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. Stamie is survived by his wife of more than sixty years, Flo Sauls Williams, and two very special friends, Glenda Cummings and Pam Hutcheson, whose love and devotion allowed him to live at home longer, in a more comfortable situation. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank Williams (Ethel), Herbert (Shirley); three sisters, Evelyn Beckham, Isabelle Bills and Gail Griffin, all of Jacksonville. Services will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church, located at 2000 Lane Ave. So., on Saturday, April 17, at 2:00 PM.
