Thompson, Joyce Emily (Nee Cheshire) Pittsford: After a very short illness on March 22, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Brian; daughter, Karen Joyce DeFrancisco and husband, Richard; son, Andrew Thompson; sister, Cecilia June Jackson and husband, Victor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, A. Geoffrey and Irene Thompson of Cumbria, England; grandchildren, Ashley, Derrick, Sarah and Andrew John; nephews, John and Peter Thompson, Mark, Nigel, and James Jackson; great-nephews, Alex, Sam and James Thompson, David, James, and George Jackson. Joyce was born in Cheshire, England and educated at The Park School, Preston and St. Matthias College (Diocesan Training College) of Bristol University. After teaching for a number of years she moved with her husband and family to the United States and then to Rochester in 1968. Joyce has been involved in many community organizations including: WXXI (Auction Chairperson 1979, Board Member, and Reach Out Radio); a long-time member of Christ Church, Pittsford (she served as superintendent of Church School, a member of the Vestry, and a warden); the Episcopal Church Home as a board member and volunteer for over two decades; The Century Club of Rochester and served as president; Lifetime Care (Genesee Regional Home Care) as board member and volunteer. She had a passion for gardening and created and personally installed the garden at the Patrick Barry House during her residency there with her husband (1984-1999); a member and officer of the 7th District Federated Garden Clubs, and a past president of The Pittsford Garden Club, former board member and president of the Council of the Memorial Art Gallery; a past president of the Rochester Chapter of the English Speaking Union. A family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Joyce with donations to the Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mt.
