John Sheldon Williams, 58, formerly of Ellesmere Road, died, March 15, 2006, at Alterra Sterling House Assisted Living Home. He was the son of Elizabeth Marlow Williams of Greer and the late Roger T. Williams. A native of River Forest, Ill., he lived much of his life in Monroe, N.Y., prior to retiring from IBM Corporation. After coming to Greenville, he filled his summers working for the Greenville Braves and enjoying their games. He also worked for Harris Teeter. He had an intense interest in the Civil War and helped to transcribe records for the National Archives. He was a past publisher of the National Williams Family Genealogy Newsletter. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two brothers Roger "Tom" Williams and his wife, Ellie, of Brookfield, Wis., and Michael Williams of Morristown, N.J.; a sister, Patricia Kilburg and her husband, Don, of Taylors; six nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and nephews, each of whom were very special to him. A Vigil service will be held tonight, March 16, 2006, at 7 p.m., with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Friday, March 17, 2006, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Alterra Sterling House and Medi Home Hospice Care for the special care that John received in his final days.
