LOWELL -- Edward "Eduardo" Aguiar, 79, a Lowell resident who worked at a local newspaper company, died yesterday, Oct. 8, at Radius Northwood Health Care Center, in Lowell, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria M. (Cabral) Aguiar, with whom he celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this past year.He was born in St. Miguel, in Portugal's Azores Islands, Jan. 21, 1926, son of the late Jose Catano and Maria Rapos. He was educated in St. Jorge, Azores.He was a fisherman, in Portugal before coming to the United States in 1968, and making his home in the Back Central Street area of the city. He was well-known as the comedian of the Back Central Neighborhood, according to family members.He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and was a member of the Portuguese American Civic League and the Portuguese American Center.Mr. Aguiar worked for Interstate Container, and for the newspaper in Acton before his retirement.He was an avid soccer fan.Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lucy and Jose M. Sousa of Pelham; four grandsons, Steven, Christopher, Zachory and Cody; a step-granddaughter, Stephanie; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Aguiar-Very of Lowell; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Antonio Aguiar of Taunton, and Esquel and Lorraine Aguiar of Lowell; a sister, Emelia Aguiar of Taunton; and nieces and nephews, including, Ramiro Aguiar and his wife, Rita, Ana Branco and her husband, Carlos, and Antonio Aguiar and his wife, Connie, all of Taunton, Bernie Aguiar, residing in New York, and Paul and Robert Aguiar of Lowell; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.He was also the father of the late Edwardo M. Aguiar, and the brother-in-law of the late Marianha Aguiar.
