CARMEL - Diane W. Richardson, 78, died Sept. 2, 2008, at her Carmel home with her family at her side. She was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Waterville, the daughter of Lindley and Elsa (Holbrook) Wheeler. She was educated in Newport schools and received her GED from Hermon High School. Diane married Clement E. Richardson, Oct. 11, 1946, in Newport. For more than 40 years, Diane worked as banquet supervisor at Pilots Grill, Bangor. She was a member of Carmel Union Congregational Church and a member of Scarlet Foxes Chapter of the Red Hat Society, Carmel. Diane was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed knitting special items for her family and friends. She was also an avid reader. She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Clement E. Richardson of Carmel; four sons, David E. Richardson and his wife, Diana, of Carmel, Michael C. Richardson and his wife, Susan, of Garland, Brian L. Richardson and his wife, Mary, of Andover and Paul A. Richardson and his partner, Steven Herbst, of Miami; one daughter, Sandra Jo Oliver and her husband, Craig, of Hermon; six grandchildren, Tricia, Todd, Ian, Sarah, Christine and Respah; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by several longtime dear friends. The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospital and New Hope Hospice for their compassionate care and services. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Private family graveside services will be conducted Friday at Highland Cemetery, Carmel, with Rev. Judy Ahles officiating.
