Obituary of Denise Marie

Denise Marie Griffin, 50 NO. WATERBORO -- Denise M. Griffin, 50, devoted wife and loving mother, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born March 8, 1958 in Portsmouth, N.H., the youngest daughter of Frederick J. and Mary T. (Moran) Pridham and grew up next to the ocean she loved, in Newcastle, N.H. Denise graduated from Portsmouth High School with the class of 1976. She was employed with Watts Fluid Power in Kittery when she met Robert Griffin, Jr. and following their first date; they knew they would become soul mates for life. They married August 4, 1979 and soon they began their family. She was drawn to people that struggled with Alzheimer's disease and worked for 14 years at the Gorham House in Gorham. Each year she and her colleagues would walk in the annual Gorham House Memory Walk to raise money for research and resources for Alzheimer's patients. Denise was a vibrant and joyful person. When she walked into a room, people were drawn to her natural beauty, yet it was her happy nature that endeared her to many. As she began raising her two daughters, Shannon and Meghan, their home became the neighborhood house to come to after school. Her kitchen was her domain and she created and shared her talents with baked goods for her family and friends. Denise was known as the 'Fun Aunt' and special memories were made at the house on Bunganut Lake. Denise loved the beach, shopping and was an avid Red Sox fan. Each day she relished in the daily crossword puzzle with her friend Sandy. She loved games and her competitive nature came through. As a family, she enjoyed vacations to Cape Cod, Florida and visiting Disney. She was a giving and talented woman, but her first love was being a wife and mother. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 29 years, Robert 'Bob' Griffin, Jr. of No. Waterboro; her pride and joy, her daughters, Shannon Griffin and her fiancé' Brandon O'Connor of Saco, Meghan Griffin and her companion, Earl Heathcock of No. Waterboro; her father, Frederick Pridham and wife MaryAnn of Brookfield, N.H.; one brother, Michael Pridham of Seabrook, N.H., and one sister, Kim Dain of Alton, N.H.; her two brother-in-laws, Gary P. Griffin and his wife Bonnie of Lebanon, and John B. Griffin and his wife Emily of East Waterboro; her father-in-law, Robert Griffin, Sr. of Lyman; and several nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Sandy King and Lisa Canino. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Quirk in 1990; her nephew, Jason Pridham in 2001; and by her mother-in-law, Sandria Griffin in 2008. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, Sept. 16, From 5 - 8:00 p.m. At the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak Street, in Alfred.
