COOKE, Charles Edward "Ted" CD December 2, 1930 - Brantford, ONNovember 23, 2014 - Calgary, AB One week before his 84th birthday, we said goodbye to a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Ted was born in Brantford, Ontario and raised in Burford during the depression. He married the love of his life, Shirley in 1957 at Queens University. For their honeymoon they drove across Canada and made their home in Calgary. Ted's sales career in the oil patch had the family move many times between Calgary and Edmonton with various employers. He started Corab Trailers with a partner in 1967, growing the company to 105 employees only to see it shrink to 5 after the National Energy Program in 1980. Ted bought his first Brittany Spaniel in 1970 which began his passion as a breeder, field trialer, judge and CKC pointing dog council member. He was very proud of his Gunner background, had a keen interest in military history and for many years was a librarian and archivist for the Royal Alberta United Services Institute (RAUSI). Ted held life memberships with the Calgary Pointing Dog Club, Canadian Kennel Club, Canadian Professional Sales Association and RAUSI. In 2003 he was awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee medal. Ted is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Leanne Johancsik (Colin); grandchildren Kara, Michael and Andrea; and son David (Heidi). He was predeceased by his son Bruce. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Drive S.W.) on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thanks to the staff at Southwood Hospice who treated Dad with respect and dignity and made his last days comfortable. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 420 – 9 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0R9 Telephone: (403) 410-1111, www.salvationarmy.org or CanLearn Society, 3930 20 Street SW, Calgary, AB T2T 4Z9, (403) 686-9300, www.canlearnsociety.ca, or to the St. Laurence Anglican Church.
