LAKELAND -- When Mrs. Anna Louise York wasn't working or worshiping the Lord, she enjoyed playing Nintendo in her spare time.Mrs. York died of cancer Monday (April 7, 2003) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 68."She liked to play Nintendo -- that was one of her favorites things to do," said her daughter, Robin York of Lakeland.Mrs. York often played with her daughter and taught her grandson how to play Atari when he was 2 years old."She was very special," Robin York said. "She wasn't only my mother, she was my very best friend."Mrs. York was born in Onida, Tenn., on Jan. 16, 1935, and came to Lakeland from there 44 years ago. She worked as a clerk in convenience stores for many years until she was diagnosed with cancer.She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Family Worship Center in Lakeland."She loved the Lord, and she loved Pastor Reggie," Robin York said, referring to Reggie Scarborough. She said her mother often read the Bible and watched Christian shows on television.In addition to her daughter, Mrs. York is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert York; son, Robert Charles York, Dry Prong, La.; and four grandchildren.Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Family Worship Center.
