STRICKLAND, William P. The optics and vacuum communities lost a pioneer of thin films and optics on Feb. 9th 2010, when William P. Strickland died at the age of 92. Bill was involved in the development of the optical coating industry since the 1930's. When the U.S. entered World War II, he was instrumental in bringing the Optical technology, already in use by our enemies, to our forces. He ultimately founded Brysen Optical Corp. in Safety Harbor, now a division of FLIR Systems. He continued his working even into his 80's. Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ellen; daughter Carol Smith; son William; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Service on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 3, gathering to begin at 2 at Curlew Hills Funeral Home.
