MACON, Ga. William Herman Strickland, age 87, died Feb. 3, 2007. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at Pine Forest Baptist Church with Rev. Harlan E. White officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.Mr. Strickland was born in Moores Bridge, Ala. to the late Willie Harkney Strickland and Lucy Ada Langdon Strickland. He was preceded in death by his son Carl Strickland, his brother, Luke Strickland, and his sister, Iris Suddeth.Mr. Strickland was employed by Southern Natural Gas Company and retired after 32 years. He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School where he played basketball. Herman enjoyed shooting "100" free throws into his late 80's with an above 90 percent or better average. He was a member of the Professional Putters Association from 1959-1975 and loved playing golf. Mr. Strickland ws a member of Mikado Baptist Church but was attending Pine Forest Baptist Church and the Hudson Tabor Sunday School Class.He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years of marriage, Girthie Lee Strickland; four daughters, Linda White (Rev. Harlan) of Fredericksburg, Va., Evelyn Florin (Richard) of Stockbridge, Ga., Judy Herron (David) of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Peggy Reade of St. Louis, Mo.; son, Rick Strickland of Macon, Ga.; brother, Roy Strickland of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Donna Poff, Craig Payne, Joette Bell, Lee Woolbright, Binny Orrell, Todd Strickland, Tiffany Ridenhour, Bridget Strickland, Brandon Strickland, Joy White, Cara White, Felicia Rawlin, Carmen Bassett, Sydney LaSarge, Gabrielle Herron, Laurie Reade, and Jenny Read; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Pine Forest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1848 Tucker Road, Macon, GA 31210.
