McKenna, Wilfrid P.J. March 30, 1924 – October 27, 2009 Our exceptional, amazing, truly loved Dad died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 27th following surgery. Dad led a full happy life, tremendously rich in family and friends. He was predeceased by his adored wife and one true love, our mum, Moira McFadden (1999). We, his children, are shattered by his death and will dearly miss his presence in our lives. Ian (Lois) in Indianapolis, Sara (Stew) in Montreal, Tricia (Terry) in Ohio, Philippa Jane (Mike) in Vancouver and Claire (Daniel) in London, England. His grandchildren and great granddaughter share the loss of a kind, dedicated and wonderful teacher. Garrett and Patrick McKenna, Laura, Julia and Jeffrey Rapoch, Michael and Tristan McKenna-Small, Xavier and Moira Kate (Molly) Gallagher, and Kylie Rapoch-McElhaney. His sister, Maureen McKenna, England shares in the sad loss of her beloved brother. Dad was born in London, England, son of the late Lady Pleasance Rous and Owen McKenna. He joined the Royal Navy out of school, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer before immigrating to Canada with his young, growing family. He built a life for us in Vancouver then Montreal, first as an aircraft mechanic, then a pilot with Air Canada. In his retirement, Dad and Mum travelled extensively. Following her death, he continued to explore the world, sharing his time, his travels and his sense of adventure with us and our families. He donated his time coaching the Special Olympics swim team, and teaching adults how to read. Dad was an enormously kind, generous and gentle man, with a terrific sense of humour, who loved the world and his place in it. He will be missed. Our heartfelt and sincere thanks are extended to the staff at 3W Cardio at the Jewish General Hospital, for their compassion and much appreciated support. Special thanks are extended to Dr. DeMarchie, Dr. Morin, and health care professionals, Bruno, Sylvio, Giovanni, Densley (Rick), Dana, Valerie, Marie, Julie and Karen, and all who cared for him. Our special thanks to family friend Katka who was so supportive. Visitation will be held Friday, November 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Alexandre Nicole Funeral Complexe, 96 St-Jean Baptiste, Châteauguay. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 7, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, 295 McLeod, Châteauguay, with a reception held immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Dad's strong commitment to community, tax deductible donations to the OLPH Renovation Fund, 34 St-Charles Street, Châteauguay, QC J6J 5E6 would be greatly appreciated.
