Virginia Tresca Johnson, 88, Sarasota and formerly of Palmetto, died Aug. 6, 2002. She was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Palmetto and later moved to Sarasota. She graduated from Gordon Keller School of Nursing at Tampa Municipal Hospital in 1933. She retired from the Navy Nurse Corps, having served aboard the USS Benevolence Hospital Ship in the Pacific during World War II. She later worked at Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sarasota. Survivors include daughters Becky Robertson of Tallahassee and Donna T. of Myakka City; a son, Martin B. of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren. Graveside services will be later. Inurnment will be in Palmetto Cemetery in Palmetto. National Cremation Society, Sarasota chapter, is in charge.
