Virginia Cleta Johnson, age 93, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:53 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010, in the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon. She was born on August 14, 1916, in Greene County, the daughter of Elmer and Texa (Mynatt) West. Virginia married Olan Francis Johnson on January 23, 1936. He preceded her in death February of 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of the Onward United Methodist Church. Those surviving her include two daughters, Sharlyn Emerson of Mt. Vernon, and Betty Wood and her husband, Don of Billings; four grandchildren, Greg Prater, Stephanie Colley, Chris Prater, and Kevin Wood; five great grandchildren, Jason Prater, Erika Elmore, Brandon Colley, Rachel Colley and Jared Prater; and four great-great grandchildren, Sydnee, Shaye and Sophie Prater, and Joey Elmore. Her parents; four sisters, Irene Cardwell, Thelma Winn, Faye Tiller, and Jewell Cropper; and two brothers, Arvel and Theodore West also preceded her in death. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home with burial in the Rock Prairie Cemetery at Halltown. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Onward United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
