THOMPSON _ Vera Emma 1920 - 2006 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Vera Emma Thompson of Calgary, formerly of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, departed her earthly home September 3, 2006 at the Foothills Hospital. Vera was born in the District of Kinbrae, Saskatchewan to Clarence and Harriet Richards on May 3, 1920. The fourth of five daughters, Vera was raised on a large farm and being a great lover of the outdoors and animals she became a great helpmate to her father. She was courted by and married Harold Robert Thompson of Bredenbury, Saskatchewan. Children Wayne and Sharon were born to this union and after Harold returned from serving in the RCAF in World War II (1941 - 1945) son Terry arrived to bless the family. For the next forty-eight years they would all actively enjoy living in the fine community of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Primarily a dedicated homemaker, Vera also worked a number of years in the Spence Shoe Store. Her zest for life was always present as she served tirelessly in Church and civic duties, especially the Women's Auxiliary of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, The Rebekah Lodge and her children's school activities. An avid sports fan, she was a golfer, ice skater, curler, ballplayer and walker. Her great love was hockey and she and Harold were active in the Yorkton Junior Hockey Booster Club. Travelling, gardening, baking and card games brought her much pleasure but Family was always her first love and priority. Vera and Harold moved to Calgary in 1995 and enjoyed a number of years of happiness with family and new friends. Harold died in June 2004, marking sixty-five years they had lived as true soulmates and devoted partners. Surviving are her loving family - son Wayne of Calgary and his daughter Erin Timpson (Robert Wilson) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, daughter Sharon (Bob) Sells of Cornelius, North Carolina and their children, Terri (Clay) Smith of Concord, North Carolina, Robin (Brent) Wilhoit of Knoxville, Tennessee, Lesley (Jordan) Lasure of Cornelius, North Carolina; son Terry of Calgary and daughters, Teryl (Rob) Crombie of Toronto, Ontario and Libby (Luke) Ferris of Victoria, BC, daughter-in-law Sandy Ostertag of Calgary and daughters, Nancy Nassef and Sara (Kareem) Hatata both of Calgary; sister Dorothy M.
