Valerie June Smith, 32, Salem, formerly of Medora, died at 12:01 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Washington County in a car accident. She was affectionately known as Punky Doodle. She loved her family, friends and children. She was a member of Medora Christian Church. Born March 19, 1976, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Terry C. Smith and Cathy Ann Phillips Smith, both of whom survive. Other survivors include sons, Brandon Smith, Jonathon Burgess and Nathaniel Burgess, all of Salem; daughters, Destiney Terrell and Breanda Smith, both of Salem; brother, James Dean Smith, Edinburgh; sisters, Angela Denise Hemmingway, Hamburg, Whitney Nicole Smith, Brownstown, and Keicia Brianna Smith, Medora; grandmother, June Phillips, Bedford; her fiancé, Wesley Burgess, Salem and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, James Smith; two grandfathers, Marlin Dean Phillips and James Casper Smith and a grandmother, Bessie Pearl Smith. The Rev. Stan Thomas will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Medora Christian Church. Burial will take place at White River Valley Cemetery, Medora. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to Medora Christian Church Family Life Center Fund. Arrangements were handled by Hague Funeral Home, Medora.
