Margaret Gray June 19, 2004 Sister Mary Margaret Gray, Daughter of Charity, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at St. Louise House, Albany, NY. Born in Ireland in 1910 to Margaret Monahan and Lawrence Gray, Sister Mary Margaret came to America at the age of 21. She entered the Daughters of Charity Emmitsburg Province in 1932. Sister spent many years of her community life as a surrogate mother for children. From 1933 to 1945 she served in St. Vincent's Home, Syracuse, NY. She also cared for children in Farmington and Saginaw, MI; Buffalo, NY; and Richmond, VA. Because of failing health, Sister came to Albany in 1993. Two nieces, Margaret Royer and Rose Ann Penn of Washington, NJ, and a cousin, Colleen Loskey of Marcellus, survive Sister, as well as many of those she cared for in their childhood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the DePaul Provincial House Chapel. Calling hours: Monday, June 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the chapel. Interment: St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Arrangements: Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., Albany. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Daughters of Charity Development Fund, 96 Menands Road, Albany, NY 12204.
