Shirley Johnson Fitzgerald, 90, of Natick, died peacefully on April 27, 2012 after a short battle with Alzheimers. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Fitzgerald, who died in 1994, and daughter of the late Axel and Grace (Burke) Johnson. Born in Boston, she grew up in Melrose and Brighton, Mass, graduating from St. Columbkilles High, Brighton in 1939, and later attended Boston University. Married in 1946, Joe & Shirley moved from Brighton to their Fiske Street home in Natick in 1950, where she lived for 57 years, and where they raised five sons. After their sons were older, she worked for many years in the auditing Dept. at Sears in Natick, until she retired in 1987. She is predeceased by her son J. Michael, and her brother Carl Johnson. She leaves four sons and their wives: Jeff & Jeanne of Hopkinton, Ken & Denise of Plymouth, Paul & Joanne of Holliston, and Brian & Dr. Christine Sobon of Roseville, MN, as well as 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, whom she loved very much, and her two sisters-in-law, Rosalie Johnson of California, and Eugenia Jean FitzGerald of Waltham, both of whom shared many adventures with Shirley over the years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt, a loyal friend to many, and a faithful Catholic. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, gardening, travel, reading novels, and doing crosswords, and loved hosting large family gatherings at her Natick home. God now has another angel, and we will miss her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Shirleys funeral on Friday at 8am from Norton Funeral home (www.nortonfuneralhome.com) 53 Beech St. (corner of Union Ave) Framingham, followed by the funeral Mass at 9am in St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford St, Natick. Burial will be in the family lot at St. Patrick Cemetery, Natick. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday, from 5 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cure Alzheimers Fund, 34 Washington St, Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02181 (www.curealzfund.org)
