ANDERSON Shirley Ne?e Edith Shirley Scarlett 5th March 1934 - 27th June 2008 Our wonderful mother died at home on June 27th, 2008. Born Edith Shirley Scarlett in England, attending Chelsea Art School and the Royal College of Art, she came to Canada with husband and two small daughters for a short stay that lasted, with some gaps, for almost 50 years. Mum was an artist, silversmith, psychotherapist, gardener, needle worker, heritage conservationist, collector and preserver of old things. Focusing on "the life of the mind," she surrounded us with books, pictures, music, lively conversations, dust bunnies and old furniture lovingly restored in spaces transformed by her artistic hands and eye. She made things beautiful, and guided the cultivation of our minds and conduct with deep love, teaching us compassion and thoughtfulness of others by example. Profound thanks to the Victoria palliative care system, especially the home care nurses who showed us how to look after her. She was an easy and loving patient. Mum leaves husband Peter, children Beatrice (Doug Nash), Dorothy (David Scholefield and daughter Alison), James (Jodi Hensel) and grandchildren Sean, Alex, Emma, Jordan and Alec. In England are brothers Paul (Ann), Edward (Elizabeth), and sisters-in-law Sarah and Elizabeth. We are joined in sadness by her friends across North America and Europe. Funeral: Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria BC, 1:00pm July 10th. No flowers please. Any donations to Victoria Hospice, www.victoriahospice.org .
