Ruby Williams Ruby "Maude" McFarland Williams, 99, a homemaker of Clovis, died Nov. 3, 2003 at Laurel Plains Nursing Home in Clovis. She was born Feb. 9, 1904 at the Ritter Ranch in La Veta, Colo. to James Fred and Nora King McEvoy McFarland. Her father and his brother Sim McFarland owned a mercantile store in Nara Visa, New Mexico which they sold to John Burns in September of 1904. They moved with the family to Logan, New Mexico in December and established a new store and home. The store later became McFarland Brothers Bank the following summer. Maude grew up and attended school in Logan and graduaded in the first class in 1922. She attended the Baptist College at Montezuma, New Mexico just north of Las Vegas,New Mexico, where she recieved her teaching certificate. She then taught school at the Logan school. She married her classmate and only other graduate of the the first graduating class , E.F. "Bud" Williams on Sept. 16, 1925 in Logan. Bud and Maude were involved in the livestock and ranching business all of their married lives owning B-W (Bookey Williams) Cattle Company for many years. She has been a christian and supporter of the Logan Baptist Church since childhood where she was baptized in a large tank. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis for many years. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star of Deming, New Mexico and the International order of Odd Fellows-Rebekah. She enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid reader. Maude is affectionately known as "Muggins" by her daughters-in-law and grandchildren, the name was given to her by her father Fred when she was a little girl. Survivors include two sons, Stanley and his wife Bettye Williams of Clovis, and Sherman and his wife Jayne Williams of Clovis, four grandchildren Jamie, Michelle, Michael, and Patrick and one great grandson Tanner, five nieces and four nephews. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Logan Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Kulback will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers are her grandchildren, great grandson and friends. Arrangements by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Memorials instead of flowers maybe made to the First Baptist Church of Logan, 601 Armijo, Box 382 , Logan, New Mexico 88426.
