William Roy Simmons, 84, of 301 Ponderosa Road, passed away Jan. 26, 2006, at his residence.Born on Aug. 6, 1921, in Pickens County to the late Judge Grady Simmons and Kizzie Arnold Simmons. Mr. Simmons was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of Griffin Baptist Church and was married to Marilyn Evette Simmons for 54 years.Surviving are daughters, Susan Simmons Finley of Pickens and Tammy Simmons Kelley of Pickens; sons, Bill Simmons of Seneca, Jimmy Simmons of Pickens and Jeff Simmons of Pickens; a sister, Viola Day of Pickens; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 28, 2006, at Griffin Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Terry Fowler officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Griffin Baptist Church Building Fund, 1629 Pumpkintown Highway, Pickens, SC 29671. Family members are at their respective homes.Dillard Funeral Home is assisting the Simmons family.
