Bell Canada Manager Retired Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Saturday, February 2, 2002. Robert Douglas Gibbons husband of the late Eva Beryl Caird of Ottawa. Son of the late RJ (Bobbie) Gibbons and the late Lillian Eastwood Gibbons of Smiths Falls, Ontario. Loving father of Douglas James and his wife Irene. Proud and loving Grandfather of Ashley Diana and Nicole Deanna. Fondly remembered by Jason and Micheal. Dear friend of Agnes Fife. Father-in-law of Christine Lavigne. Predeceased by his only brother, Dr. James Eastwood Gibbons of Westmont, Quebec. Uncle Bob to many nieces and nephews. Born in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Robert joined the Bell Telephone Company of Canada upon finishing high school and after a brief stint in the army returned to the company for which his career spanned over forty years. Robert was highly respected and widely known by many during his time at Bell. Robert had a keen interest in sports, especially golf, tennis and badminton. Robert greatly enjoyed following U.S. College Football and more recently playing trivia knowledge games on the Internet. Robert will be missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Monday, February 4, 2002 from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. Following the service a reception will be held at the McGarry Family Reception Centre. Then to James Reid Funeral Home, 900 Counter Street, Kingston, Ontario for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, February 5, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at a 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Glenburnie, Ontario. Donations made to either the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fairfull-Smith of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus and all the team members for their care. As well, a special thank you to Dr. Belina Barns of the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre and the palliative care nurses of the 2nd floor for their care, compassion and concern during this very difficult time.
