Rev. Sidney John CrawfordHartselleJohn Crawford, 85, of Hartselle died Saturday, November 12 at Parkway Medical Center, Decatur. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Peck Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jesse Hawkins and Rev. Walton Blackman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.Bro. Crawford was a retired Baptist minister, serving several churches in Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana. He was well known and loved for bringing comfort and joy to countless people over the years, especially by visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes. He was a member of East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle. In recent years since his retirement, he served with Calvary Baptist's ministry at Summerford Nursing Home. He loved being outdoors, doing yardwork and planting a garden, the fruits of which he loved to share with family, friends and neighbors. His wit and wisdom will be missed by everyone who met him, as he never met a stranger.He was born September 10, 1926, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Sidney Johnson Crawford and Grace Jean Crawford. He was a graduate of Riverside High School, Decatur, and Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C., where he met his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Lord Crawford. He then graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans, La. He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters, Virginia Mc- Clanahan and Mildred Dunn.Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Sylvia Halbrooks, Falkville, Beverly Fuqua (Will), Bessemer, and Margaret Mitchell (Vacel), Falkville; his brothers, William Crawford, Nashville, Tenn., Raymond Crawford, New Orleans, La., David Crawford, Fayetteville, Tenn.; sisters, Louise Pitt, Pulaski, Tenn., Lillian Posey, Fayetteville, Tenn., Carolyn McInnis, Dallas, Texas, Patricia Moyers, Fayetteville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Tracy Ward (Jerome), Hartselle, Layne Dillard (Shannon), Decatur, Chad Halbrooks (Maebec), Falkville, Christy Casey (Keith), Alliance, and Michael Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren and 21 nieces and nephews.His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
