Phyllis May Owens, 91, died Oct. 30, 2012, in Tequesta. She was born in New York City and lived in Tequesta for 26 years. She was an executive secretary, having worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and the Hunt Botanical Library at Carnegie Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh. While she was working, she attended college for 16 years and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967. She also was a first-grade teacher for one year in Upper St. Clair, Pa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tequesta. She was a volunteer for Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of WICS. She was an angel square dancer and performed at the Florida State Fair and at Six Flags Amusement Park. She also was a member of the Coquettes, a dance group which performs at local nursing homes. Survivors include her son, Chris Stone of Tequesta; daughter, Claire Greenspon of Darien, Conn.; brother, Henry Vagts of Centerville, Mass.; four grandchildren; and two-great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Gallo of Tequesta; and husbands, C. Walter Stone, Timothy V. Paige, Walter Weidner and Jack A. Owens. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta, 482 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 33469. Services: A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta. Her cremated remains will be buried in a family plot in North Salem, Mass. Arrangements are by Forest Hills Young & Prilll Chapel, Stuart.
