Peter J. Carroll, 58, of Ipswich, died Thursday April 18, 2013 in his sleep following a sudden illness. Born in Lowell on May 1, 1954, he was the son of the late Raymond C. and Agnes M. (Johnston) Carroll. Raised in Lowell, Peter was a 1972 graduate of Lowell public schools and a student of photography for two years at the N.E School of Photography, Boston. In 1974 he went to work as a letter carrier at the Wakefield office for the U.S. Postal Service. In the mid 1980s he transferred to the Ipswich office where he was currently employed. Peter loved living year round on Little Neck experiencing the local waters. He very much enjoyed home gardening, early American history and family trips to Florida and Bermuda. Around the kitchen he will be remembered for his special dish, a tasty rack of ribs. He is survived by his son, Christopher C. Carroll of Ipswich, two brothers, William Carroll of Ft. Myers, FL and Raymond Carroll of Raleigh, NC, a cousin Joyce Johnston Moreau in S. Berwick, M.E, his former wife Gael Cummings, several nephews and nieces, his companian Gretchen LeRoyer, and many great friends that he met along the way. Visiting hours will be Wednesday April 24, 5-8pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
