Pauline M. (Newinski) Therrien, 100 of Rockland died at the Coyne Healthcare after a long illness. She was born in Chicago, daughter of the late James and Valerie (Spano) Newinski. Pauline was employed with Civil Service for many years in Chicage before moving to Rockland. Mrs. Therrien celebrated her 100th birthday in March with a party at the nursing home and was presented a citation from President Obama. Pauline was a Past President of Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Old Colony Post #1788 from 1954-1955 and again from 1978-1979. During her years with the organization she was a color bearer at many auxiliary installations. She served as a Convention Page to Dept. of Mass President Phyllis Callahan from 1962-1963. She was well known at the Rockland Post Office for her diligence in sending packages to the troops during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting lap robes for the veterans at the Brockton VA hospital and she coordinated hospital parties and dances for the patients through her auxiliary. A Brownie Troop Assistant for many years, Mrs. Therrien had also been an active member of the Rockland golden Agers. She was predeceased by her cousins Edward and Theresa Thibeault and is survived by Edward,Dennis and David Thibeault. Pauline was also a close friend of Claire Payne of Abington and her family The Therrien and Tibeault family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate Paulines life on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church in Rockland. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.
